Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has made a significant, ongoing commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution. For many years, our school has celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Alonzo Kenniebrew during Black History Month with an award in his honor, a dinner, a speaker, and a community discussion the following day. This year we are expanding the event to include the first annual Kenniebrew conference, dedicated to centering and advancing equity and justice work in medical education and in our communities. Minds in Motion program preview

The Smith Alzheimer's Center is excited to bring its Minds in Motion program, designed for persons experiencing memory loss or dementia and their caregivers, to the NAACP. From brain games, music, exercise, art and more, the goal of Minds in Motion is to have activities using all five senses to improve or maintain mental, physical, and emotional well-being. SIU medical student working with NIH scientists in Washington

Third-year medical student Taylor Badger has embarked upon a unique learning opportunity that adds a year of intensive research experience to her medical school curriculum at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. This spring she was awarded a position in the National Institutes of Health’s Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP) class of 2022-23. She moved from her home in Springfield to the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD, to begin a year-long mentored research experience. The prestigious training is awarded to 50 candidates selected from among the top U.S. medical schools. The
