Alumna Rebecca L. Johnson, MD, ’78, has made remarkable strides in the field of pathology and medical leadership. As the chair of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board of Directors, Dr. Johnson brings an extensive background in medical certification and education to the forefront. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Johnson is passionate about increasing awareness of pathology as a career, emphasizing its critical role in patient care. An avid traveler, she enjoys exploring the world with her husband, Michael, having visited destinations from Antarctica to the Galapagos Islands. Dr. Johnson’s expertise, vision and dedication continue to inspire the medical community, making her a true champion for the future of pathology and medicine.

SIU School of Medicine will host the first use of the newest edition of the Advanced Trauma Life Support course in the United States on April 29–30. The Southern Illinois Trauma Center (SITC) at Springfield Memorial Hospital and the Memorial Learning Center are piloting the training.
