Dr. Kulacz awarded Golden Apple

Congratulations to Dr. Jeremy Kulacz , assistant professor of neurology, who has been selected for the 2024 Golden Apple Award. Each year, the graduating class at SIU School of Medicine bestows the honor to a faculty member for providing the most outstanding education during their training. Dr. Kulacz earned his undergraduate degree at Illinois State University and his doctorate at SIU School of Medicine. He pursued a residency in adult neurology at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, RI, and completed a fellowship in vascular neurology at Rush University Medical

Dr. Michael Connolly receives IAFP President’s Award

The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP) members and leaders installed the new board of directors and present IAFP Awards. SIU Faculty, Dr., Timothy Ott selected two members for the 2023 President’s Awards, including SIU’s Dr. Michael Connolly. According to the IAFP website, “Dr. Ott called out Dr. Connolly’s work in bringing Medication Assisted Treatment for substance use to the SIU Family Medicine Residency programs and also to many rural Central and Southern Illinois areas, enabling access to crucial addiction treatment and recovery services to Illinoisans throughout the region.”

Dr. Sharon Smaga Named IRHA Physician of Excellence

The Illinois Rural Health Association selected Sharon Smaga, MD, professor of family medicine in Carbondale, to receive a 2017 Physician of Excellence Award. The award is presented to doctors who have made a significant impact on the health of communities and shown dedication toward improving access to care in medically underserved areas of the state.
