New SIU Clinic Aims to be Safe Harbor for Foster Children

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois – Kids Health Harbor, located inside SIU’s Center for Family Medicine in Springfield, has opened a clinic exclusively dedicated to providing primary medical care to children in foster care. The new clinic will complement services provided by the SIU Department of Pediatrics. New SIU Clinic to Open at Taylorville Memorial Hospital

TAYLORVILLE, IL - Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is opening a Center for Family Medicine clinic inside Taylorville Memorial Hospital. The new SIU primary care clinic will open on Jan. 15 and will initially be located in the Specialty Clinic space, near the nonprofit hospital’s Laboratory and Rehab Services departments. Dr. Janet Albers, physician assistant Christine Albers and nurse practitioner Airn Etherton will see patients three half-days per week. New SIU Office Plans Open House in Canton

Southern Illinois University Medicine is planning a new Office of Regional Programs branch in Canton. The office will host an open house to celebrate the new location at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, at 175 S. Main St. on the second floor of the E.P. Coleman office building in Canton. New SIU Population Science and Health Program Aims for Solutions

Studies show that health care professionals affect about 20 percent of health outcomes. The other 80 percent depends mostly on physical and emotional environment and on individual health behaviors. New study looks at use of Riluzole to slow Alzheimer's progression

Riluzole is an FDA-approved drug, currently used to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS; Lou Gehrig's disease) and is currently in a Phase II clinical trial for the treatment of mild Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (Clinical Trial #NCT01703117). The exact reason behind riluzole’s potential benefits on cognition in AD patients is unknown. Since 2020, firearm injuries have become the No. 1 cause of death in American children, according to the CDC. New treatment offers outpatient option for enlarged prostate

A new medical procedure is now available in central Illinois for treating a common male malady. Water vapor therapy can be done in an outpatient setting to treat Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate. BPH is present in the majority of men over age 40, and more than 90 percent of men over age 80, according to the National Institutes of Health. It affects the frequency and ease of urination.
