OB-GYN residents bring wellness to the community

Resident chefs make a healthy meal for Springfield Ronald McDonald House Our fantastic four-year OB-GYN residents just took "community wellness" to a whole new level during National ACOG/CREOG Resident Wellness Week. They swapped their stethoscopes for spatulas and whipped up a scrumptious lunch for the families over at the Ronald McDonald House. Their paella, refreshing fruit salad, garlic bread and delicious cake were a hit. Their culinary skills not only filled tummies but also warmed hearts. Cheers to our residents for spreading joy and representing SIU Medicine in our community!

One Decade, 5,000 Babies

In the last 10 years, SIU’s Fertility and IVF Center has become the preferred option for couples dealing with infertility. This spring, the center celebrated 10 years of helping couples start their families. In that time, the center has maintained a reputation for superior quality patient care and a state-of-the-art embryology laboratory. In 2016, Abbie and Mike Joyner of Sherman, Illinois, had hopes of conceiving a baby to start their family. After years of irregular cycles, one year of trying on their own, and six months of oral medications, cysts developed instead of healthy pregnancies

Opioid Conference Offers Guidance For Health Care, Law Enforcement Professionals

The United States is in the midst of an opioid overdose epidemic. Opioids (including prescription opioids and heroin) killed more than 33,000 people in 2015, more than any year on record, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nearly half of all opioid overdose deaths involve a prescription pain reliever. More Illinoisans die from opioid drug overdoses than from motor vehicle accidents or all gun-related causes. An educational conference will address issues surrounding the opioid prescription drug and heroin epidemic, starting at 8:30 a.m. on June 6 at the Mount Vernon
