This annual symposium is designed to provide educators at SIU School of Medicine the opportunity to learn about the innovative approaches to medical education.

Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at SIU Medicine invites the community to participate in its annual butterfly release, a meaningful tribute to honor the living and commemorate the memory of loved ones. Individuals may sponsor a butterfly in someone's name as a symbol of remembrance or celebration. The ceremony will feature the public reading of names, accompanied by music, inspirational reflections and the graceful release of butterflies. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has made a significant, ongoing commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution. For many years, our school has celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Alonzo Kenniebrew during Black History Month with an award in his honor, a dinner, a speaker, and a community discussion the following day. This year we are expanding the event to include the first annual Kenniebrew conference, dedicated to centering and advancing equity and justice work in medical education and in our communities.
