Debra Klamen Medical Education Innovation Award

This new, targeted award recognizes significant medical education innovations at SIU School of Medicine. The award was established in honor of Debra Klamen, MD, MHPE, Senior Associate Dean for Education and Curriculum, Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Education. Dr. Klamen has been a driving force in advancing medical education through her innovative contributions at both local and global levels.

2025 - Nicholas Weshinskey, PhD
Nominee Eligibility:
Any individuals or groups who worked collectively at SIU SOM on educational innovation, e.g., faculty, learners (medical students, residents, fellows), nurse educators, and staff, are eligible for a nomination.
Application Evaluation Criteria:
- Alignment with the institutional mission
- Originality of the innovation
- Impact on medical education
- Capacity for sustainable innovation
Examples of educational innovations include but are not limited to:
- New medical education curriculum development and reform
- Innovation in teaching methods
- Development and application of new educational technologies
- Advancement in Problem-Based Learning
- Design and application of a new assessment tool
- New approaches to community health education
