Fringe benefits must be budgeted in grants for all SIU School of Medicine personnel who have salary being charged to the grant. Standard fringe benefits are not budgeted for graduate assistants or student workers.

Our current approved policy, set by the federal government, has established all fringe benefit rates: medical (including health, dental, and life insurance) and retirement/Medicare, as a single percentage of salary.

Principal Investigators/Project Directors also need to budget for 50% of Graduate Students/Assistants Primary Care Fee for each semester the Graduate Assistant will be employed during the life of the grant. The Primary Care Fee cannot be prorated for an assistant working a partial period of a semester. From consulting Student Health Services, SIU Carbondale's OSPA's best estimate of the relevant 50% budget figures for proposals are reflected in the table above.

Postdoctoral Fellows

Current salary base must be used for employed postdoctoral fellows.
