Application information

Any PA enrolling in the DMSc program must first complete the application and submit all official transcripts and other required materials to the SIU Carbondale Graduate School via the online application portal.

Once your application is reviewed by the department, you will be notified via email of your recommendation for admittance. The SIU Graduate School will complete a final verification and review and notify via email of official admittance to the DMSc degree program.

This process can be lengthy, please apply early.

Students must meet the following minimum qualifications for application:
  • Earned degree from an ARC-PA accredited PA Program
  • Active / Maintained NCCPA certification
  • A non-refundable SIU Carbondale Graduate School application fee paid upon submission of your application

  1. Provided evidence of earned degree from an ARC-PA accredited PA Program (copy of diplomas)
  2. Official Transcripts (copy of transcripts to upload to application)
  3. Proof of Active / Maintained NCCPA certification 
  4. Current CV
  5. Proof of Residency (Driver's License or State ID - SIU Graduate School requirement)
  6. Personal Statement answering the question “Why are you pursuing your doctorate degree?” (this acts as a writing sample)
  7. Fellowship Information (optional)
  8. 1-3 Letters of Recommendation
  9. Application Fee

A non-refundable SIU Carbondale Graduate School application processing fee is charged upon submission of any application unless otherwise noted.

  1. Click the "Apply Now" button below to start your application. Some helpful tips before you start your online application:
  2. You will be redirected to the SIU Carbondale online application portal. You will create a username and password. Once your account is created you can save your application progress. 
  3. Read the application pages carefully and fill out each field as needed, including name, contact information and background information.
  4. Choose your semester start date. (Spring or Summer) 
  5. Choose the program of study. Doctoral applicants will select "Physician Assistant Studies then select "Doctor of Medical Science" in the fields below.
  6. Departmental information: We do not offer graduate assistant ships, choose "No" for your answer. Continue answering the remaining questions on the page.
  7. Upload your resumé and provide residency status (a Driver's license or State ID)
  8. Choose your track duration: 1-year track (full-time) offered both in Spring and Summer. The 2-year track is available for Summer only (part-time)
  9. Provide NCCPA Certification and copies of your Bachelor's and Master's Diplomas
  10. If applicable, provide information on any fellowships you have completed in the past. See DMSc staff for more information.
  11. Upload your personal statement
  12. Upload unofficial copies of transcripts for each college or university you attended.         • Please Note: You must also request “official transcripts” from all the colleges you attended. They must be sent directly to the SIU Graduate School, preferably via electronic email, or else mail. Information on where to have transcripts emailed or mailed is available on the application portal.

    All transcripts and schools attended are subject to verification by the SIUC Graduate office if you are accepted to the program. Failure to disclose all colleges attended and all college coursework completed during the application process may result in your acceptance into DMSc being delayed and/or rescinded. 

  13. Provide 1-3 letters of recommendation. Applicants will provide the name and email for recommenders. Automated recommendation letter requests will be emailed to these contacts after application submission via the SIU Application Portal. Be sure to notify your recommenders so they can look for the email. 
  14. SIU DMSc does not require test scores - skip this section.
  15. Provide information on public safety, review your application and provide a digital signature.
  16. Submit your application and pay the application fee. 

You will hear from the SIU DMSc department after your application is reviewed. If admitted by the department, your application will be sent to the SIU Graduate School for verification, final review and official SIU admittance.
