Carbondale Residency Program

Welcome
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Carbondale Family Medicine Residency Program is an exciting place to learn family medicine. Take a glimpse at our resident and faculty pages for a more in-depth view. Enjoy your visit with us, and please contact us if any questions arise during your tour!

Mission
We accomplish this in an atmosphere of mutual trust and cooperation in our unopposed community based program. This means your education on each rotation will be first-hand with your preceptor(s) without having to compete for instruction with other residents from other specialties! The end results are competent, caring physicians prepared to practice in any area they choose - urban, suburban, rural, or even in a foreign country.

Residency Profile
We have seven full time and one part time faculty physician and two full time physician assistants. The program is blessed with community wide physician support - an educational benefit not enjoyed by many residency programs.

NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans, managed behavioral health care organizations, preferred provider organizations, new health plans, physician organizations, credentials verification organizations, disease management programs and other health-related programs.

"I am excited about the experiences and training that we offer in Carbondale, a university community with many academic and social opportunities. We have both the ability and the desire to train physicians who will feel comfortable practicing in a variety of settings. Our access to numerous rural communities in the surrounding counties provides a patient population that is diverse in its economic, ethnic, and educational background.

We invite you to visit Carbondale and take a look at our Family Medicine Residency Program and our accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship and Hospital Fellowship. If our needs for training residents coincide with your needs, please take the time to come and see us.""
