2015-2016 Outstanding Coordinator of the Year Award

Tina Hartwig, program coordinator at Decatur Family & Community Medicine, was nominated for and awarded the 2016 Outstanding Coordinator Award. Hartwig has been in this role for over eight years. This will be an annual award sponsored by the Office of Residency Affairs and given to a GME program coordinator. The coordinator must be in this role for a minimum of one year, and must demonstrate a commitment to the mission and behavioral standards of SIU School of Medicine. MEDPREP is part of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and is housed on the SIU campus located in Carbondale, Illinois. Carbondale is a town of 25,000 located in the southern tip of the state, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. At the edge of the Shawnee National Forest, Carbondale has many nearby outdoor recreation areas, including Giant City State Park, Little Grand Canyon and Garden of the Gods. MEDPREP Mission The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Medical and Dental Education Preparatory Program (MEDPREP) is an intensive two-year academic enhancement program designed to help socioeconomically disadvantaged students and educationally disadvantaged students improve their academic credentials for medical or dental school entry. Next class begins: Applications for the Class of 2028 (2026 entry) will be available soon - see below under "Application Materials Checklist."
