The Teaching Kitchen with General Internal Medicine | October 16, 2024

Join us for cooking demonstrations, recipes, and sample tasting at the Salvation Army, 1600 E. Clear Lake Ave., Springfield, IL. These classes will be led by an SIU Medicine Registered Dietitian, Charlyn Ware. Therapy Dog Visits the Library

The Library’s Study Break on February 28, 2018 had a special guest in addition to the usual treats and coffee. Gibson, a 2 ½ year old black lab, visited the Medical Library with his handlers, Tami Richmond and Holli Gleason. Gibson joined the State’s Attorney’s staff in 2017 and was recently featured in the State Journal Register for his comforting and calming presence with victims of abuse and violence. With warm weather comes a host of exciting outdoor activities: swimming, boating, biking, road trips, fireworks and camping to name a few. But, when precautions aren’t taken, many of these activities can also end in injury. One group at SIU School of Medicine makes it their mission to prevent that.

ThinkFirst Trivia Night 2024

Join us for a night of fun and friendly competition at the ThinkFirst inaugural trivia night on March 9! You’ll be supporting our efforts to prevent brain and spinal cord injuries, especially those caused by motor vehicle accidents. The doors will open at 6:00 pm, and the trivia will begin at 7:00 pm. Tables are for 8-10 people and $100 per table. There will also be a cash bar, prizes, a 50/50 raffle ( $1 for each or 6 for $5), and bring your table snacks! Nothing says summer fun like an outdoor party by the pool or fire pit. But if you decide to drink alcohol during these steamy days, take precaution. Nearly one-third of motor-vehicle deaths are related to alcohol impairment, according to the CDC. When it’s hot outside, our bodies become dehydrated more quickly.
