Dr. Jerry Kruse Honored By National Family Medicine Organization

Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH, dean and provost of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and CEO of SIU HealthCare, has received the Advocate Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM). The award honors an STFM member for outstanding work in political advocacy at the local, state or national level. Kruse served as president of STFM from 2011-14. He currently serves on the board of directors. Previously, he was STFM’s legislative affairs committee chair and its representative to the AAMC Group on Residency Affairs. Kruse’s nominator Mary N. Dr. Jerry Kruse Named Fourth Dean and Provost

The SIU Board of Trustees has voted to appoint Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH, as Dean and Provost for Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The appointment is effective January 1 and is pending a final contract. Kruse, a professor of family medicine, has been Executive Associate Dean of SIU School of Medicine and Chief Executive Officer of SIU HealthCare since 2013. Dr. Kathy Swafford to Receive Excellence Award

September 17 -- Dr. Kathy Swafford, director of SIU's Children's Medical and Mental Health Resources Network, has earned a "Rural Physician of Excellence" award from the Illinois Rural Health Association. Congratulations to Dr. Jeremy Kulacz , assistant professor of neurology, who has been selected for the 2024 Golden Apple Award. Each year, the graduating class at SIU School of Medicine bestows the honor to a faculty member for providing the most outstanding education during their training. Dr. Michael Connolly receives IAFP President’s Award

The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP) members and leaders installed the new board of directors and present IAFP Awards. SIU Faculty, Dr., Timothy Ott selected two members for the 2023 President’s Awards, including SIU’s Dr. Michael Connolly. According to the IAFP website, “Dr. Ott called out Dr. Connolly’s work in bringing Medication Assisted Treatment for substance use to the SIU Family Medicine Residency programs and also to many rural Central and Southern Illinois areas, enabling access to crucial addiction treatment and recovery services to Illinoisans throughout the region.”
