Dr. William Robinson appointed Committee Chair for Post Graduate Education of the Society for Vascular Surgery

Dr. William Robinson, Professor and Division Chief of Vascular Surgery at SIU Medicine, has been appointed as the Chair for the Committee for Post Graduate Education of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS). The Post Graduate Education Committee solicits proposed content from SVS members to provide relevant education to advance the practice, curricula, and scope of practice in vascular surgery. The Springfield Business Journal celebrates 40 young professionals under 40 in our local community each year. As part of the 2024 class, SIU Medicine’s Dr. Clare Zimmerman and Dr. Aida Adlimoghaddam have been honored for their outstanding contributions. Durbin releases plan to address health care workforce shortages in rural Illinois

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin held a news conference with Illinois health care leaders Monday, May 22, to release his “Roadmap to Grow Illinois’ Rural Health Workforce.” The partnership with hospitals, community health centers, medical and nursing schools, community colleges, dentists, physicians, and nurses will organize efforts and provide new funding to address health care workforce shortages and staffing crises in rural Illinois.

Eight Minority Students Begin Studies at SIU School of Medicine

Eight minority medical students in the Class of 2020 began their medical training last week at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale. “We continue to attract a diversity of students, which helps us address the health care needs of the population,” said Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion Wesley McNeese, MD, who presented the students. “Statistically, students from underrepresented groups are more likely to practice among underserved populations and to choose the general practice of medicine over specialization.” McNeese, who is a 1986 medical school graduate of
