The Division of Orthopedic Surgery and Institute for Plastic Surgery have been awarded the J. Leonard Goldner Pioneer Research Award for their grant proposal: “LGR+ Stem Cells Augment Osteogenesis on Bone Defect Scaffolds.” The grant was a collaborative effort by Austin Beason, MD (Orthopedic Surgery, PGY-3), Carrie Harrison and Michelle Randle (both from the Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory), and Jacob Franke (third-year medical student). Haneme Idrizi, MD, has been named associate dean of student affairs and admissions at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She will assume her new role on July 1.
