Since 1987, SIU Medicine has hosted this showcase for the county's finest student artists. Art teachers for grades K-12 can submit up to four artworks from their respective schools. Judges then narrow the selections further for the exhibit. The artworks are on display in the school's medical library on the 4th floor of 801 N. Rutledge St. in Springfield, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. On Friday, May 9, there will be an artists' reception in the library, followed by an award ceremony in the South and West Auditoriums.

Simmons Cancer Institute will provide free colorectal cancer screening kits to area residents at a drive-through event from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. Guests can enter Simmons Cancer Institute’s circle drive (315 W. Carpenter) and remain in their vehicle while a kit is brought to them. Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths among both men and women in the United States and the second most common cause of cancer deaths when the groups are combined. View the artistic talents from the SIU Medicine community at the Scope Art Exhibit. Paintings, drawings and photography are on display April 1-21 in the Medical Library, 801 N. Rutledge. While you're there, vote for your favorite work in the People's Choice Award. Voting ends at the close of business on 4/21. The winner will be announced at the reception at noon April 22 in the Pearson Museum.

Scope is the School of Medicine's annual arts publication. The creativity of SIU medical students, staff and family members is showcased in the new booklet; their artworks are presently on display in the Medical Library. Some of the talented artists and authors will discuss their process at the Scope Luncheon at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, in the Pearson Museum. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the food and fun.

The Play Lab is led by Lisabeth DiLalla, PhD, a developmental psychologist at the SIU School of Medicine, and is home of the Southern Illinois Twins, Triplets and Siblings Study (SITSS). The lab focuses on preschoolers and the development of peer interactions and parent-child interactions from early childhood through adolescence.There are several research projects underway at the Lab. The SITSS primarily focuses on preschoolers, with various projects encompassing the development of peer interactions and parent-child interactions from preschool through adolescence.

SIU School of Medicine’s Class of 2025, along with medical schools across the nation, will learn the results of the National Residency Match Program , the official cooperative for appointments to graduate medical education programs at 11 a.m. this Friday, March 21.
