The Teaching Kitchen with General Internal Medicine | October 16, 2024

Join us for cooking demonstrations, recipes, and sample tasting at the Salvation Army, 1600 E. Clear Lake Ave., Springfield, IL. These classes will be led by an SIU Medicine Registered Dietitian, Charlyn Ware. Individuals will have the option to make appointments with the dietitian for more nutrition education as well as an SIU General Internal Medicine physician for primary care. During this class, you'll learn how to use seasonings and spices to cook healthy, low-cost meals. Stick around for the end, and taste-test these delicious recipes. ThinkFirst Trivia Night 2024

Join us for a night of fun and friendly competition at the ThinkFirst inaugural trivia night on March 9! You’ll be supporting our efforts to prevent brain and spinal cord injuries, especially those caused by motor vehicle accidents. The doors will open at 6:00 pm, and the trivia will begin at 7:00 pm. Tables are for 8-10 people and $100 per table. There will also be a cash bar, prizes, a 50/50 raffle ( $1 for each or 6 for $5), and bring your table snacks! THRIVE | Mind-Body Workshop

THRIVE (Trauma Healing and Resilience in Volatile Environment) is designed to provide support, connection, and resources for healing during difficult times. Training and Using Standardized Patients for Teaching and Assessment

This workshop is designed to teach participants to recruit, train, and supervise the performance of standardized patients for both teaching and assessment. In addition to the strong focus on basic standardized patient training skills, case/checklist development and program maintenance will be covered. The workshop will be largely experiential with standardized patients being trained and cases written. The workshop will culminate on the final day with a dry run of the cases developed during the workshop.

Are you looking for a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity? The Smith Alzheimer’s Center is seeking volunteers to assist staff with our community outreach programs. Designed to be fun, active and engaging, these programs fill a vital need for early-stage dementia patients and their caregivers. Join us for an informational meeting on Tuesday, July 25 to learn more about how you can volunteer. Volunteers do not need to have a healthcare background. Walk to End Alzheimer's

Join us for a walk! The Smith Alzheimer's Center will have a team at the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter's Walk to End Alzheimer's on Oct. 1 at Southwind Park. You can register and join our team through the link above, and help show your support by joining us to raise awareness about Alzheimer's and related disorders. The Smith Alzheimer's Center will help kick off the walk by cheering participants on at the starting line, as well as providing motivation around the Southwind Park trail. There is no requirement to donate, just a pair of comfortable walking shoes!

White Coat Coat Ceremony - SIU School of Medicine Class of 2028

A White Coat Ceremony at SIU School of Medicine celebrates the new students in the Class of 2028. During the August 16 event in Carbondale’s Shryock Auditorium, students receive white coats to signify the beginning of their journey to become physicians. Family members and guests who are unable to attend can watch the ceremony on YouTube .
