Purchasing

The mission of the SIU School of Medicine Purchasing Office is to provide efficient customer service to our internal departments as well as our vendors for the purchase of goods and services. The Purchasing Office coordinates purchases for not only for the SOM, but also for SIU Physicians & Surgeons, Inc. in addition to the Foundation and Grant Office. Purchases are made in accordance to the Illinois Procurement Code and the State Finance Act (as applicable), the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University policies, and SIU SOM policies and procedures. Obstetrics and Gynecology

Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at SIU Medicine. Our department's dedicated and caring physicians provide a full range of outstanding health care services to women of all ages. Medical Education Year 1

The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine curriculum is designed to support students' development into skilled, thoughtful physicians. In the first year, students work through a series of clinical, organ-based problems. Each problem requires breadth and depth of knowledge in disciplines like gross anatomy, histology, biochemistry, behavioral science, pharmacology, embryology, genetics, physiology, and population health. Students learn clinical skills—history taking, physical exam maneuvers, and clinical reasoning—concurrent with the basic sciences. They work with standardized

Medical Education Year 2

In the second year at SIU Medicine, the curriculum is fully integrated around organ systems. Materials integrate the disciplines of clinical medicine, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, public health populations and radiology into four, nine week long core instructional units arranged around organ systems. The second-year curriculum is nine months long with a two-week winter break. Students usually take Step 1 of the U.S. Medical Licensure Exam (USMLE) at the end of the second-year curriculum.

Medical Education Year 4

Fourth-year medical students enjoy a diverse range of experiences through which they can explore their medical interests, strengthen areas of weakness in knowledge, clinical skills, and/or clinical reasoning, and broaden their preparation for postgraduate training and practice. Upon graduation students must meet all fourth-year requirements, attain a passing score on USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, and successfully complete all SIU Medicine graduation requirements.

The Department of Neurology at SIU is committed to excellence in patient care, education and research. Located in central Illinois, we provide state-of-the-art care for persons afflicted with diseases of the brain and nervous system. The neurology training programs center around a balanced population with primary referral and sub-specialty care, and a highly structured curriculum in basic and clinical sciences.
