SIU Med Students, Residency Programs Meet Their Match Seniors learn the results of the National Resident Matching Program March 16, 2018 – Senior medical students in the graduating Class of 2018 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine received results from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) on Friday, March 16, at the same time other U.S. medical students learned their matches to postgraduate training programs. SIU Med Students Sponsor 5k to Benefit MERCY Communities

Southern Illinois University Medicine students will sponsor the 6th Annual Junaia P. Carter, MD 5k Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at Washington Park in Springfield. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. The event is dedicated to Dr. Junaia P. Carter. Carter was a member of the Class of 2010, who died in November 2010 after a battle with breast cancer. The SIU student chapter of the American Medical Association sponsors the race. All race proceeds benefit M.E.R.C.Y. SIU Med Students Sponsor 5k to Benefit M.E.R.C.Y. Communities

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine students will sponsor the Annual Junaia P. Carter, MD 5k Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Washington Park in Springfield. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. Originally known as the annual American Medical Association 5k, the event was renamed in honor of Dr. Junaia P. Carter, a member of the Class of 2010. SIU Medical Education Programs Receive Three International Awards

An international organization has recognized Southern Illinois University School of Medicine for its medical education programs. SIU was the only medical school to be recognized in all three areas by the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). AMEE is a worldwide organization with members in 90 countries on five continents. Members include educators, researchers, administrators, curriculum developers, assessors and students in medicine and the health-care professions. About one in 4,000 children are born with a deficiency of one or more pituitary hormones that results in a wide variety of health issues. Dr. Buffy Ellsworth at SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale is part of an extensive $2.77 million multi-university grant-funded research project to unravel the mystery of how congenital hypopituitarism (CH) occurs.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Anjali Patel, a second-year medical student at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, has been selected for the 2025 Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship by the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Third-year medical student Taylor Badger has embarked upon a unique learning opportunity that adds a year of intensive research experience to her medical school curriculum at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
