What is a clinical research trial? Although there are many definitions of clinical trials, they are generally considered to be biomedical or health-related research studies in human beings that follow a pre-defined protocol. Interventional studies are those in which the research subjects are assigned by the investigator to a treatment or other intervention, and their outcomes are measured. Observational studies are those in which individuals are observed and their outcomes are measured by the investigators. CCU

General Goals: During the rotation the fellow will be responsible for the care of the patients in the CCU. This rotation, which spans 2 months in the first year, serves as an intensive introduction to the management of the most acute cardiac problems. The fellow is also responsible for initial evaluation and triage of patients presenting to the Emergency Department with suspected acute cardiac disorders. CCX ASSESSMENTS

The CCX (Clinical Competency Examination) is a clinical skills/reasoning exam that uses standardized patient encounters followed by computer-based documentation and clinical reasoning. CCX exams are administered throughout the curriculum: at the middle and end of each Unit in Year 1, at the end of each Unit in Year 2, at the end of each Pediatric and Psychiatry core rotation (Internal Medicine has End-of-Clerkship standardized patient exams, but they do not include the CCX post-encounter), and in the Summative Clinical Competency Examination (SCCX), in Year 3 after students complete their
