Graduate Medical Education

SIU Medicine was established to support and improve the health of people living in central and southern Illinois. We’ve spent decades achieving this aim through excellence in research and patient care, as well as by providing comprehensive Graduate Medical Education for our diverse community of medical students, residents and fellows.

As a leader in academic medicine, SIU Medicine prepares physicians-in-training to be confident, caring and compassionate providers who are poised to excel in their chosen fields. Our Graduate Medical Education programs offer students direct access to sophisticated technologies, advanced training, hospital affiliations, and evidence-based innovations that will help them best serve their urban and rural environments, as well as advance their careers.

Skills Lab

Featured program

SIU School of Medicine is a world-renowned leader in surgical education and simulation. Our Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery residency program emphasizes the use of our state-of-the-art surgical skills center, the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, with monthly high fidelity skills labs. Residents are excused from clinical duties during these labs in order to maximize their benefit. This portion of our curriculum is truly unique and provides residents a safe and rich environment to develop their surgical skills outside of the operating room.
