Surveys

ACGME Annual Surveys:

ACGME Surveys are conducted annually between February and April by the ACGME. Faculty and trainees are surveyed online on a number of program-specific requirements. These surveys are an additional method used by the ACGME to monitor graduate medical education and provide early warning of potential non-compliance with ACGME accreditation standards. All specialty and subspecialty programs (regardless of size) are required to participate in these surveys each academic year. The survey link is sent directly to faculty and trainees using email addresses provided by the program in the ACGME WebADS system.

Reports of Results:

  • Faculty: When at least 70% of a program’s faculty members have completed the survey and a minimum of four faculty members have responded, reports of aggregate results are released. The results provided show how the program compares to previous year results and to overall ratings for all programs in each specialty.
  • Resident/Fellow:  When at least 70% of a program’s residents/fellows have completed the survey and a minimum of four residents/fellows have responded, reports are available. For those programs with fewer than four residents/fellows scheduled for the survey who meet the 70% compliance rate, reports provided in aggregate using multiple years of program survey data.

SIU End of Year Survey: 

The Office of Graduate Medical Education surveys all residents and fellows annually, in late spring, to gather input on various aspects of their training, such as clinical and hospital facilities, staff, etc.; program administration and faculty; learning environment; satisfaction; and a variety of other issues. The survey is sent electronically to residents/fellows to complete. Results are anonymous.  More information can be found in the Evaluation of Program section of this manual.

Reports of Results:

  • An overall, composite of all hospital specific questions responses is compiled and provided to hospital liaisons and administrators, and House Staff Board of Directors. The results are incorporated into the Annual Institutional Report.
  • Individual program results are also compiled and provided to each respective program and to the Department Chairs of these programs.

Mid-Year Resident Survey:

The House Staff Board of Directors surveys all residents and fellows in mid-winter to gather mid-year input on topics such as supervision, sleep rooms, learning climate, and any other issues of relevance that may arise. The survey is sent electronically to each resident to complete. Results are anonymous.

Reports of Results: 

  • Compiled as an overall composite and provided to the House Staff Board of Directors and hospital liaisons receive responses only for hospital specific questions.

Post-Match Survey:

This survey is conducted by the Office of Graduate Medical Education to query match candidates that were ranked high enough to match with SIU SOM, but did not. The purpose is to gather input on why candidates ranked SIU SOM lower or chose not to rank SIU SOM at all. The ultimate goal is to improve recruitment and trainees that match with SIU SOM. The survey is anonymous and is sent electronically to email addresses provided by the candidates in the ERAS system.

Reports of Results: 

  • Compiled as an overall composite and provided to GMEC and the Dean.
  • Individual program results are also provided to each program.

SIU Internal Review Surveys:

As part of the regular internal review process, confidential surveys are sent to program director, program coordinator, residents/fellows and hospital administrators. These are conducted electronically. Results are anonymous when possible and confidential and are provided only to the 5 member committee conducting the internal review.

Miscellaneous Surveys:

Miscellaneous surveys are conducted periodically to gather input on topics such as suggestions for professional education, faculty development, policy issues, oversight, etc. These are conducted electronically and take place only as needed. Results are anonymous when applicable and are provided only to the Office of Graduate Medical Education, or to the relevant individuals or groups.
