Dermatology elective for fourth-year medical students The SIU Division of Dermatology offers fourth year students a 2-4 week general dermatology elective. During the rotation students spend a majority of their time seeing patients in our general dermatology clinics. Assigned textbook reading is expected during the elective time. We have several didactic conferences during the week and most are tailored to include student participation. These include weekly journal club, visual recognition conference, lectures and monthly grand rounds. Students may also be involved in evaluating hospital

Dermatology Residency Benefits

Books: The division purchases the required dermatology, dermatopathology, and dermatologic surgery textbooks for each resident. A camera and dermatoscope are provided to each resident to use during their training period. Curriculum Overview

Schedule Our program includes three residents per year. PGY-1 The preliminary year with SIU Internal Medicine includes rotations in general internal medicine and multiple subspecialty areas, including dermatology. Our internal medicine colleagues are known for their interest in teaching and excellent patient care. Our dermatology PGY-1 residents have the opportunity to spend 3 half-days once a month on their “Y” week in our clinic, and they rotate through a teledermatology clinic as well as our general dermatology clinics. Theodore R. LeBlang, J.D., FCLM Emeritus Professor of Law and Medicine About Mr. LeBlang is Emeritus Professor of Law and Medicine at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Schools of Medicine and Law. During the period 1993-2006, Mr. LeBlang served as professor and chair of the medical school’s Department of Medical Humanities. He was also director of the Program of Law and Medicine and founding director of the M.D.-J.D. Dual Degree Program. From 1975-92, Mr. LeBlang served as legal counsel to SIU School of Medicine. Mr. LeBlang is Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Legal Medicine and Associate
