First Year Curriculum

The first year begins with a 1-2 week orientation. Call system emphasizes the initial assessment and management of medical problems through a longitudinal emergency medicine experience. Taken from home and is done with a senior resident During the week during the evenings 5:30pm-10pm and averages every 6 th evening Every other weekend call is 6am-10pm Total average 5 call days a month Clinic is two half-days a week at SIU Quincy Family Practice The first-year rotations are all required rotations and involved mostly inpatient care. 3 blocks on the Family Practice inpatient service 2 blocks

Components of the Final Clerkship Evaluation: Clinical Skills Students will be evaluated by faculty and residents on their ability to: Gather and organize data Interpret data and make decisions Apply medical knowledge to generate differential diagnoses and formulate plans of care.
