Osteopathic Medicine

The SIU Department of Family and Community medicine has residencies in Carbondale, Springfield, and Quincy, which have achieved ACGME Osteopathic Recognition status since July 2017. Although run separately these three programs collaborate to participate in a shared monthly osteopathic journal club through a video conferencing platform. Additionally they convene for annual osteopathic manipulative treatment workshops sponsored through the A.T. Still University Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institute.

2019 Lecture Daniel E. Dawes, J.D. , was the 2019 Theodore R. LeBlang Distinguished Lecturer . His presentation was entitled: The Future of Health Equity in America . Dawes is a nationally recognized leader in the movement to advance health equity among under-resourced, vulnerable, and marginalized communities. An attorney, scholar, and health policy expert, Dawes serves as the Senior Advisor and General Counsel to the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and as an Associate Professor of Complex Health Systems at the H. Interdisciplinary Network for Outreach

The Interdisciplinary Network For Outreach is the first SIU School of Medicine student organized group of its kind. Members involved are interested in serving global and local communities through health related outreach projects. This student-based organization emerged from a Student Interest Group centered around Population Health and Prevention concepts, but since September 2008, it has begun to develop into a network of relationships that reach throughout the Springfield community and abroad. Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine's Department of Family & Community Medicine directs the student Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and coordinates activities with the student representatives for each class. Students interested in family medicine and/or primary care are welcome to join FMIG to learn more about the philosophy and experiences in family medicine. Membership is free.
