Medical Student Elective Goal The goal of this elective is to provide the student with the opportunity to observe common conditions that affect heart, lung, esophagus and intrathoracic contents that are treated in a surgical fashion. Vascular Surgery Residency Curriculum

Curriculum The Division of Vascular Surgery offers a five-year vascular surgery residency program, with one position available each year, that was approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2009. Applicants must be graduates of LCME-accredited medical schools, osteopathic schools accredited by AOA, or foreign medical schools with ECFMG certification. Vascular Research

Research conducted by the Division of Vascular Surgery is done in conjunction with the SIU Center for Clinical Research . We participate in major clinical trials and participate in the Society for Vascular Surgery Quality Initiative (VQI). Our residents have presented at local, regional and national meetings, including posters and podium presentations. During the residency program, each resident must complete at least one primary clinical or basic science research project. Prior to the completion of their final academic year, a completed manuscript must be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal

Illinois Asthma Home Assessments

Background: The Community Health Needs Assessment identified pediatric asthma as a problem disproportionally impacting children on the East side of Springfield. A community based approach using community health workers and home visits was developed to reduce Emergency Room visits due to uncontrolled asthma. Vascular Conferences

Vascular Core Conference Core conference is held every Tuesday at 4 p.m. and is for vascular residents. Vascular trainees will review and discuss a topic from one of the vascular textbooks or the SCORE curriculum. Vascular M&M and Interesting Case Conference Vascular residents and surgery residents on the vascular rotation are required to attend vascular M&M and the interesting case conference.
