Visiting Student Rotation

The Institute for Plastic Surgery welcomes fourth-year medical students for a rotation with our institution. There are two 4-week long rotations for students: a plastic surgery sub-internship and a hand-focused rotation. Traditionally, those interested in entering the field of plastic surgery have completed the sub-internship rotation. Interests are taken into consideration when making schedules to help make the experience as fulfilling and educational as possible. We are abiding by ACAPS and AAMC policies about visiting rotations. Tina Hartwig, program coordinator at Decatur Family & Community Medicine, was nominated for and awarded the 2016 Outstanding Coordinator Award. Hartwig has been in this role for over eight years. This will be an annual award sponsored by the Office of Residency Affairs and given to a GME program coordinator. The coordinator must be in this role for a minimum of one year, and must demonstrate a commitment to the mission and behavioral standards of SIU School of Medicine. MEDPREP is part of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and is housed on the SIU campus located in Carbondale, Illinois. Carbondale is a town of 25,000 located in the southern tip of the state, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
