Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG)

Students who would like to explore a career in emergency medicine are encouraged to join the SIU Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG). This student interest group hosts various meetings dealing with an array of topics related to emergency medicine. During the fall, EMIG hosts a “Welcome to Emergency Medicine” Meet and Greet. EM faculty also attend and are available to answer any and all questions students may have about becoming an emergency medicine physician. Year 4 Elective

SIU 4th year students not bound for Emergency Medicine residencies but wanting more experience in the Emergency Department may choose to enroll in the Year 4 Elective. Students in the elective will be given primary care responsibility for Emergency Department patients under the supervision of Emergency Department physicians. Students will engage in the following activities; patient workups, documentation of patient evaluations, communication with Faculty regarding patient care, and performance of a variety of procedures.
