D r. Beau J. Batton joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of pediatrics, specializing in neonatology. [ Note : He was promoted to associate professor in July 2013.] He is one of the new pediatric specialists recruited as part of St. John’s Children’s Hospital, a joint endeavor of SIU and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Most recently, Batton completed a three-year fellowship in neonatology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland (2008). Curriculum

Upon completion of a bachelor’s degree and required prerequisites, the Physician Assistant Program includes 26 months, 7 semesters of intense Problem-Based Learning (PBL) modules with clinical experiences. These units of study are based on the most common disease states and preventative medicine guidelines utilized in medical practice. The curriculum is designed to prepare primary care providers for medical practice. All physician assistant courses are sequenced and are required of all students. To earn this prestigious honor, a faculty member must demonstrate excellence as an educator including exemplary teaching and facilitation of problem-based learning, use of innovative educational techniques, contributions to medical education
