Patient Experience Highlight | Quincy Family Medicine lab team

Our April 2019 celebrated patient experience highlight comes from the Quincy Center for Family Medicine and goes to the clinic’s laboratory team for the outstanding value they provide to the clinic and to our patients. Running a high complexity laboratory requires an immense level of knowledge and expertise for monitoring test values, lab equipment, and helping our providers apply those results in direct patient care. Patients with Hard-to-treat Depression Have Options with Esketamine

As a USPS mail carrier and mother of three, Tricia Duckworth began struggling with depression in her mid-20s. She felt tired, anxious and struggled to find a reason to get out of bed. As her symptoms progressed, she began seeing Karen Broquet, MD, a psychiatrist at SIU Medicine. Through the years, Dr. Broquet and Duckworth tried a variety of drug therapies to treat her depression. Ultimately, she was on the highest allowed dose of Effexor (venlafaxine) and could function on an interim basis. Pharmacology Memorial Awards Ceremony 2019

Dr. Satu Somani was one of the three original faculty members of the SIU School of Medicine Department of Pharmacology and a dedicated scientist/educator. He loved teaching, often asking for more time to teach additional material he felt was important to the student’s medical education. Dr. Somani passed in 2002, and to honor his memory, a fund was established to provide a monetary award annually to an outstanding student of Medical Pharmacology.
