SIU Medicine, Memorial to Partner on Alzheimer’s Center to Expand Services, Research

SIU Medicine’s Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders is renewing its commitment to Springfield area residents and its 93-county service region with a new partner: Memorial Medical Center. Central Illinois patients with difficult to control high blood pressure may benefit from a new hypertension clinic at SIU Medicine, 751 N. Rutledge, Springfield. Patients who must take multiple medications, find it difficult to control their high blood pressure or are concerned they may have a secondary cause for their hypertension are urged to contact the new clinic, which will take appointments on Wednesday and Thursdays. Most people who get infected with COVID-19 get better within weeks of the illness. Yet studies indicate about 1 in 4 experience lingering post-COVID symptoms. For these individuals, post-COVID issues extend a month or longer, and can include a wide range of new, returning or ongoing health problems. Looking for a pediatrician to schedule a back-to-school physical for your child? Southern Illinois University Medicine will open a pediatrics clinic in Decatur on August 2. Sandra Yockey, MD, a board-certified pediatrician, is accepting new patients at the lower level of 102 W. Mission trip boosts health, builds trust A team of medical providers from Southern Illinois University Center for Family Medicine and Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) accompanied SIU School of Medicine resident physicians and students on a mission trip to Costa Rica on March 3-6. The group provided essential medical care to the residents of Isla de Chira, a community of about 3,000. The team raised more than $4,000 to purchase medications and supplies for the trip, allowing them to treat 300+ adults and children during their four-day visit.
