Tuesday, Sept. 17, was the second annual National Suicide Awareness Day. At SIU Medicine, faculty, staff and learners took a moment of silence to remember, mourn, pay tribute to and send love to those in our community lost to suicide. Sibling Play Lab

The Play Lab is led by Lisabeth DiLalla, PhD, a developmental psychologist at the SIU School of Medicine, and is home of the Southern Illinois Twins, Triplets and Siblings Study (SITSS). The lab focuses on preschoolers and the development of peer interactions and parent-child interactions from early childhood through adolescence.There are several research projects underway at the Lab. The SITSS primarily focuses on preschoolers, with various projects encompassing the development of peer interactions and parent-child interactions from preschool through adolescence.

Simmons Cancer Institute accepting research internship applications

Applications for the 2022 summer lab internships at Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine are being accepted through March 7. Four positions will be awarded on a competitive basis to qualified undergraduate college students who plan a career in medicine or research with a focus on cancer. Established in 2009, the paid internship program provides hands-on experience for college undergraduates. Simmons Cancer Institute Accepting Summer Internship Applications

Summer research internships will be offered for the ninth year at Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Medicine. SCI will award four paid positions to qualified undergraduate college students who plan a career in medicine or biomedical research with a focus on cancer. Simmons Cancer Institute and Passavant Hospital Announce Partnership

A new partnership between Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville will expand area cancer patients’ access to cancer care. Edem Agamah, MD, MS, FACP, formerly of Central Illinois Hematology Oncology Center in Springfield, has joined Simmons Cancer Institute and will see patients on Tuesdays in Jacksonville. Swati Pathak, MD, assistant professor of internal medicine at SIU School of Medicine, will begin seeing patients on Mondays in November at Passavant. Pathak is also a member of Simmons Cancer Institute
