SIU Center for Family Medicine-Taylorville prepares for school with physicals and vaccines event

TAYLORVILLE, IL – Do you have a child who needs a school physical? SIU Center for Family Medicine-Taylorville is hosting a school physical event 9 am – 12 pm on Saturday, August 1, at 303 East Bidwell in Taylorville. The event is by appointment only. School physical times can also be scheduled in the evenings of August 3 and 10, for children of busy parents and guardians. Call now to make an appointment at 217-824-1134. SIU Centers for Family Medicine expands COVID testing to all

The SIU Centers for Family Medicine, in coordination with the Illinois Department of Public Health, is expanding access to COVID-19 testing to everyone. Previously, testing was limited to those meeting certain screening criteria. Now, anyone can be tested, including individuals who have no symptoms. As restrictions on gatherings change and more businesses open, the testing expansion will give community administrators and public health professionals the opportunity to monitor infection rates and keep infection rates low. SIU Clinic First to Study New High Blood Pressure Device-Based Treatment

Over 100 million Americans have hypertension, and more than half of those who are on antihypertensive medications still don’t have their blood pressure under control. Doctors at Southern Illinois University Medicine are conducting a groundbreaking clinical trial to test the effectiveness of a new device to lower blood pressure. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine honored several faculty members and students during its 2017 commencement on Saturday, May 20, at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Assistant Professor, Sabha Ganai, MD, PhD , director of gastrointestinal oncology at Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU received the 2017 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, presented by the Arnold P. CARBONDALE, IL ─ Even if traditional “back to school” rituals present new questions for parents, public health officials and providers are reminding families that required physicials and immunizations should still be scheduled.
