SIU Medicine to offer COVID-19 vaccines to children 5-11

Beginning the week of Nov. 8, current SIU Medicine patients five years and older are eligible to receive a vaccine to protect them against COVID-19. SIU Center for Family Medicine will be vaccinating community children as well as SIU Medicine patients. Appointments for your child to receive a COVID-19 vaccine will be available at the following days and times: SIU Pediatrics in Springfield (400 N. 9th) 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays SIU Center for Family Medicine in Springfield (4th and Carpenter) 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays 9 a.m.-noon Fridays SIU Pediatrics in Decatur (400 W. SIU Medicine to Present Colors of Health Fashion Show 2024

The Alliance for Women in Medicine and Science (AWIMS) will host the Colors of Health Fashion Show and Community Engagement Awards on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S. 6th St., Springfield, Ill. This annual event celebrates the vibrant intersection of community engagement and health through fashion. SIU Medicine to Relaunch COVID-19 Testing Site

SIU Medicine, in coordination with the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) and the Office of the Mayor, is relaunching a testing site at SCDPH to meet the immediate need for expanded testing in Sangamon County. “For 50 years, outreach programs have been part of the bedrock of the medical school," said Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH, CEO of SIU Medicine. “As COVID-19 rates increase, medical professionals and organizations like ours are needed to protect the health and safety of our communities.” Testing is available on select days at 2833 S. SIU Medicine to Train New 'Hotspotters'

Students and faculty from some of the nation’s top higher education institutions will learn the art of “hotspotting” at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers selected the medical school as one of only four sites in the United States to lead and train, in partnership with the Camden faculty, some of the nation’s most respected educators on the hotspotting model of access to care. SIU Medicine’s charter class of rural physicians ready for residency, greener pastures

The Lincoln Scholars Program at SIU School of Medicine graduated its charter class of medical students on May 18. The program was initiated in 2019 to create a pipeline to train physicians with a focus on rural medical care. Learn more about the first class.
