One of our strategies for developing a mindset around leadership and excellence across the organization is to begin a movement of book clubs across SIU SOM. The clubs will involve small group meetings with colleagues for an hour, once a month, over the course of a year. Books will be provided, and each month approximately one chapter will be discussed. The first book club book will be The Truth About Leadership by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.

The coach through dialogue helps the coachee to correctly set a goal, to find the best way to achieve the goal and reveal hidden inner potential in a person. Professional development is gaining new knowledge, skills, competencies, and attitudes through continuing education and career training designed to advance in one's career. Dr. Chris McDowell has been named the new Executive Associate Dean of SIU School of Medicine. He is an alumnus of the school (Class of 2005), chair of Emergency Medicine, an associate professor and the medical director for the Memorial Learning Center.
