Ling receives 2023 Toth Award for research support

The Research Policy Committee honored Lynne Ling with the 2023 Frank J. Toth Award, the highest recognition for SIU School of Medicine research support personnel. Ling is lab manager in the Auditory Neurobiology Laboratory in the pharmacology department.

Little Free Libraries Launched across SIU School of Medicine

The Center for Human and Organizational Potential hosted a contest to establish Little Free Libraries (LFL) around the SOM campus during November 2019. Department teams planned and created impressive original designs. Here are the winners. Little Leaps Child Development Activities

SIU School of Medicine Department of Population Science and Policy, Hillsboro Area Hospital and Hillsboro Community Child Development Center are proud to share the Little Leaps program resources. These downloadable PDFs provide age-appropriate, play-based activities using common household items. Each activity is designed to improve the quality of caregiver/child interaction while connecting that activity with a corresponding brain activation. These resources were developed for a project to engage parents in "serve and return" practices designed to augment infant and toddler brain development

Little Leaps Child Development Program

Short Background: Between conception and age three, a child’s brain undergoes an impressive amount of change. The brain doubles in size in its first year, and by three, it reaches 80% of its adult volume. Despite increasing knowledge of this critical time in development, no formal institution exists that routinely educates all children between 0-3.
