Obstetrics & Gynecology Education

The SIU OBGYN residency program is fully ACGME accredited without citations to train 4 residents per year. Training in primary, specialty and subspecialty care is integrated throughout all four years of the residency. In the first year of training, emphasis is placed on general obstetrics and gynecology and primary care. During the second through fourth years, residents rotate through and manage the subspecialty services as well as play an active role in the education, supervision and evaluation of junior residents and students. Friday Mornings Every Friday morning residents attend educational activities. This time is protected. M&M/Pre-op Conferences Presented by Residents. Alternates between M & M and Pre-op conferences every week Grand Rounds Weekly lectures by faculty that are based on educational curriculum. Presented by residents once a month. Didactics Presented by departmental faculty. Rotating topics are Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Ultrasound, Gynecologic Pathology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, and Urogynecology Surgical Skills Residents attend

Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Curriculum

Obstetric & Gynecology Residency Rotations Obstetrics Residents manage all aspects of obstetrical care including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum evaluation and management. There is in-house faculty available 24 hours a day in charge of supervision. Residents attend all vaginal and cesarean deliveries while on the floor. Residents also play a role in teaching medical students on the rotation the aspects of normal obstetric care.
