Medical Humanities hosts several visiting lecturers every year: Pearson Lecture: The lecture and museum are named in honor of Dr. Emmet F. Pearson, a Springfield physician who was also a professor emeritus in the internal medicine and medical humanities departments at SIU. He died in June 1996. Theodore R. LeBlang Distinguished Lectureship in Law and Medicine: Professor Theodore LeBlang was the mainstay of the Law and Medicine teaching program for every class of students who have graduated from the school since its inception in 1975. He retired in 2006.

April 12, 2017 – Cells that typically grow in the lining of the uterus can emerge in other places in the abdominal cavity where they don’t belong, resulting in severe pain and infertility. The condition, called endometriosis, affects nearly 200 ,000 women annually in the U.S. A new study by Southern Illinois University Medicine scientist Andrea Braundmeier-Fleming, PhD, could lead to an earlier diagnosis and new treatments for the disease. 3rd Year Medical Students Third year medical students from SIU and approved medical schools may complete their 3rd year family medicine clerkship at the Decatur Family Medicine Residency Program. Students clerk in the busy outpatient clinic, round on inpatients in the hospital, and take call. Family Medicine Sub-Intership Family Medicine taught by Family Physicians. A busy rotation where you'll participate on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service including taking call with the residents and seeing patients in the family medicine program under faculty supervision.
