D r. Beau J. Batton joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of pediatrics, specializing in neonatology. [ Note : He was promoted to associate professor in July 2013.] He is one of the new pediatric specialists recruited as part of St. John’s Children’s Hospital, a joint endeavor of SIU and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Most recently, Batton completed a three-year fellowship in neonatology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland (2008). He completed his pediatric residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak

SIU School of Medicine faculty members are often recognized for their innovative teaching, student- and patient-centered approach, commitment to educational research, and development of effective curricula. Each year, the Academy for Scholarship in Education (ASE) selects an exemplary faculty member as the J. Kevin Dorsey Outstanding Educator Award. To earn this prestigious honor, a faculty member must demonstrate excellence as an educator including exemplary teaching and facilitation of problem-based learning, use of innovative educational techniques, contributions to medical education
