The Professional Development Laboratory (PDL) is a suite of eight fully functional patient examination rooms surrounding a secure central observation room. Faculty observe students in standardized and real patient encounters from the observation room using audiovisual equipment and one-way glass. The SIU Family Medicine Residency Program-Carbondale is accredited by both the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). This program has an affiliation agreement with The Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, for post-graduate medical education. This allows DO residents to receive certification by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
