Medical School Accredited With Commendation for Continuing Medical Education

SIU School of Medicine received the distinguished status “Accreditation with Commendation” from the Accrediting Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME ®) as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. The Office of Continuing Professional Development was commended for demonstrating that its program “is a learning organization and a change agent for the physicians and patients you serve.” The ACCME noted that SIU SOM demonstrates engagement with the environment in support of physician learning and change that is part of a system for quality improvement

2017 Outstanding Coordinator Award

In order to formally recognize the crucial and expansive role of a program coordinator, the Office of Graduate Medical Education assembles a committee annually to select a GME coordinator for the Outstanding Coordinator Award. Written nominations are welcomed from faculty, staff, and residents/fellows. These are compiled and reviewed by the committee prior to selection. Nicole Workman is the recipient of the 2017 Oustanding Coordinator Award. Nicole is the program coordinator for General Surgery and has been in this role for four years. She also serves as a mentor and team leader for other

Submission Deadline: January 15, 2018 Acceptance Notification: First week of February 2018 Poster Presentation and Reception will be held February 19, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the MCLI Nelson Auditorium. The SIU Graduate Medical Education Committee is proud to present the SIU SOM Quality Improvement Poster Symposium and Competition. This event will publicly recognize the quality improvement projects that are being done by SIU SOM residents and fellows. Next time you’re in the library be sure to greet Sam Skeleton, the library’s newest staff member. View a collection of origami donated to the Library by Nancy Graves MD, who finished her residency in psychiatry at SIU in 2009.
