The ACGME utilizes a continuous accreditation model that emphasizes process to outcomes, and GMEC oversight of outcome measures and program quality improvement. Year 4 Elective

SIU 4th year students not bound for Emergency Medicine residencies but wanting more experience in the Emergency Department may choose to enroll in the Year 4 Elective. Students in the elective will be given primary care responsibility for Emergency Department patients under the supervision of Emergency Department physicians. Students will engage in the following activities; patient workups, documentation of patient evaluations, communication with Faculty regarding patient care, and performance of a variety of procedures.
