Research Policy Committee

The primary function of the Research Policy Committee (RPC) is to formulate and execute policies related to research at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The RPC also advises the administration on faculty issues pertaining to research. In this capacity, the committee initiates policy changes designed to enhance the research environment at the School. To assist in the accomplishment of these objectives, the RPC actively solicits input from the faculty, administrators, and staff. Radiation Control Committee

The RCC meets to discuss current issues and evaluates applications to possess and use radioactive materials, x-ray, and laser radiation producing devices. Protocols are to be submitted to Joel Reichensperger in the Office of Radiological Control located at 801 N. Rutledge, Room 1049. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Infection Control and Safety Committee

The Infection Control and Safety Committee (ICSC) combines the responsibilities of the Institutional Biosafety and the Infectious and Environmental Hazards Committees. The Division of Infectious Diseases and the Environmental Health & Safety Office (EHSO) act as the facilitators of the ICSC. Grant Review Committee (GRC) operating paper

Purpose The Grant Review Committee (GRC) serves solely for the purpose of peer reviewing research proposals for scientific merit. It acts as a reviewing agency for internal funding opportunities. The proposals are ranked based solely on scientific merit, which is then shared with the Allocation Committee for consideration of funding through SIU School of Medicine. Membership The GRC is composed of at least twenty-two (22) voting members and two (2) non-voting ex-officio members (Associate Dean for Research (ADR) and Director of the Center for Clinical Research). Unestablished investigator guidelines

Definition An unestablished investigator is a faculty member who has not been a principal investigator on an external grant and/or who has received less than three years of GRC support, whichever comes first, and/or who has had less than five years of research experience after completion of formal training. (A) Unestablished investigators in their first academic appointment may apply for a total of three years of GRC support.
