First Quarterly Patient Experience Award Presented to OBGYN

Each quarter, a traveling trophy will be awarded to a clinical department to recognize the most improvement in patient experience scores from the previous quarter. Designed to encourage teams to work together to improve the patient experience across SIU Medicine, the first award was presented to the team that improved patient satisfaction scores the most when comparing Q4 2018 to Q1 2019. First Year Curriculum

The first year begins with a 1-2 week orientation. Call system emphasizes the initial assessment and management of medical problems through a longitudinal emergency medicine experience. Taken from home and is done with a senior resident During the week during the evenings 5:30pm-10pm and averages every 6 th evening Every other weekend call is 6am-10pm Total average 5 call days a month Clinic is two half-days a week at SIU Quincy Family Practice The first-year rotations are all required rotations and involved mostly inpatient care. 3 blocks on the Family Practice inpatient service 2 blocks

Five Graduate at Summer Commencement

Surrounded by faculty, family and friends, five Southern Illinois University School of Medicine graduate students received their diplomas at a summer commencement ceremony on September 22 at the South Auditorium at SIU School of Medicine. The students were recognized by speakers Donald S. Torry, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology (MMICB), and Yueh-Ting Lee, Ph.D., professor and graduate school dean of SIU Carbondale. Flack, Hingle Receive Mastership from the American College of Physicians

The Awards Committee of the American College of Physicians recently announced that the orgnization's Board of Regents selected John M. Flack, MD, MPH, MACP, and Susan Thompson Hingle, MD, MACP, to receive masterships. Masters of the ACP are selected due to their "integrity, positions of honor, eminence in practice or in medical research, or other attainments in science or in the art of medicine. Flexible Spending Accounts: Voluntary Pre-Tax Benefits

Medical Care Assistance Plan (MCAP) Allows the employee to save tax dollars on health care expenses, such as eyeglasses, crowns and bridgework, and medical deductibles, that are not fully covered by the state-paid health and dental plans. Dependent Care Assistance Plan (DCAP) Provides for coverage of child or elder care expenses with tax-free dollars. MCAP allows for payroll deductions from $240 to $2550 per year. Flow Cytometry Facility

Welcome to the SIU Medicine Flow Cytometry Facility. We provide acquisition, analysis, and sorting of cells, as well as training and expert consultation for project/experiment planning. We serve SIUM faculty as well as outside customers. The facility has 2 analyzers, 1 sorter, and a multiplex analyzer.
