Forum Aims to Disrupt Legacy of Mistrust & Disparities in Health Care

A recent study by ‘Governing’ magazine listed Springfield as one of the nation’s most segregated cities. It cited factors such as neighborhood housing and the median income gap between white and African American families. Research shows that the social determinants of health ─ economic factors such as having a job, a stable home and access to transportation ─ can have as much of an impact on a person’s well-being as seeing a doctor regularly. Forum Promotes Team Approach to Help Springfield Homeless

A new program that encourages collaborations among police officers, community social workers and local officials is showing promise at addressing problems within Springfield’s homeless population. Area officials hope to expand upon this success by broadening the circle of local participants. A free forum will be held 1 - 4 pm on Thursday, May 3, at the Dove Center, HSHS St. John’s Hospital, 800 East Carpenter in Springfield. Forward Together Recognition Program - 2019

In 2018, SIU Medicine launched the Forward Together Colleague Recognition Program to salute employees, residents and students who demonstrate excellence in safety and service. The program is for employees across the entire SIU Medicine enterprise. Forward Together is a “real-time” program to allow administrators, supervisors and coworkers to recognize great work. Anyone can nominate any other employee, and you can be honored repeatedly, as often as you demonstrate excellence. Founding SOM faculty to deliver Pearson Lecture '... Not for the Faint of Heart'
