IDPH unveils Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan 2016-2021

In collaboration with the Illinois Cancer Partnership and Simmons Cancer Insitute at SIU, the Illinois Department of Public Health has released the 2016-2021 Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan . Illinois Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act

Notification of Mandated Reporter Status As a medical student at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, you are a mandated reporter under the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act (III.Rev.Stat 1985. ch.23. pars. 2051 et seq.) This means that you are required to report or cause a report to be made to the child abuse Hotline number (1-800-25A-BUSE) whenever you have reasonable cause to believe that a child known to you in your professional or official capacity may be abused or neglected. Illinois Asthma Home Assessments

Background: The Community Health Needs Assessment identified pediatric asthma as a problem disproportionally impacting children on the East side of Springfield. A community based approach using community health workers and home visits was developed to reduce Emergency Room visits due to uncontrolled asthma. Illinois Medical Universities to Study Factors Affecting Rural Opioid Epidemic

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the University of Chicago Medicine will use a $1.13 million federal grant to study the opioid epidemic affecting the state’s 16 southernmost counties. The joint effort will initially focus on learning how and why people use opioids such as heroin, fentanyl and prescription painkillers for non-medical reasons and examine the impact on health. People with opioid use disorder, particularly those who inject the drugs, are more vulnerable to outbreaks of HIV, hepatitis and other infections.
