Diversity

It is the policy of Southern Illinois University that all students, faculty, staff, and guests should be able to enjoy and work in an educational environment free from discrimination and harassment. Discrimination against any person or group of persons based on race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation including gender identity, marital status, age, physical or mental disability, military status, unfavorable discharge from military service, or veteran's status is specifically prohibited in the Southern Illinois University community. This policy on non-discrimination and non-harassment reaffirms Southern Illinois University's commitment to maintaining an environment in which ideas are pursued free of intimidation or fear. The Policy applies to admissions, employment, access to and treatment in all University programs and activities.

SIU Radiology is committed to devising strategies and overseeing initiatives within the department to ensure diversity in all its forms. We work to assure a mix of residents, faculty, and staff that mirrors the census demographics for central and southern Illinois. To this end, the radiology department institutes a holistic review process for residency applications. When reviewing residency applications, reviewers are blinded to the applicant’s photograph and no automatic score cutoff is used. Our review process emphasizes professionalism, work ethic, values, and character.  Beyond recruitment, our overarching responsibility is to help residents successfully complete their residency education, while providing support to them and the diverse faculty and staff who make up our workforce. We strive for an organizational culture that respects individual differences, where persons of various backgrounds can flourish in a harmonious, secure, nurturing environment.

SIU Radiology is a part of SIU School of Medicine, which has a number of initiatives in place to assist programs in achieving a diverse and inclusive environment.
