The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. All of us at MEDPREP were heartbroken to hear of the death of one of our own, Dr. Tamara O’Neal, who was a MEDPREP student from 2007-09. After MEDPREP, Tamara went on to complete her MD at the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by a residency in emergency medicine. She was working as an emergency department physician at Mercy Hospital in Chicago at the time of her passing. Dr. O’Neal, who was affectionately known at “TO” by her colleagues and friends, was beloved for her smile, her kindness, and her generosity of spirit. In recognition of the crucial and expanding management role of GME Program Coordinators, the Office of Graduate Medical Education (OGME) assembles a committee annually to select a coordinator for the Outstanding Coordinator Award (OCA). The office requests written nominations from faculty, staff and residents/fellows. Remembering Shirley We are pleased to showcase our newst endowed scholarship: the Endowed Shirley J. McGlinn Memorial Scholarship Fund. Many of our alumni will remember Mrs. McGlinn as a longtime biology instructor for MEDPREP, much beloved by all who knew her. Shirley received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, and a Master’s Degree in Zoology from SIU Carbondale. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (Springfield) relies on the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program (CITI) to fulfill Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) Training required for all personnel involved in federally funded research. Successful completion of Financial Conflict of Interest training is required before research personnel can engage in research activities.
