Family physicians in nine Illinois communities are hosting students from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine November 26–December 21. The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. We Remember Dr. Tamara O'Neal, MEDPREP '09

All of us at MEDPREP were heartbroken to hear of the death of one of our own, Dr. Tamara O’Neal, who was a MEDPREP student from 2007-09. After MEDPREP, Tamara went on to complete her MD at the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by a residency in emergency medicine. She was working as an emergency department physician at Mercy Hospital in Chicago at the time of her passing. Dr. O’Neal, who was affectionately known at “TO” by her colleagues and friends, was beloved for her smile, her kindness, and her generosity of spirit. 2018 Outstanding Coordinator Award

In recognition of the crucial and expanding management role of GME Program Coordinators, the Office of Graduate Medical Education (OGME) assembles a committee annually to select a coordinator for the Outstanding Coordinator Award (OCA). The office requests written nominations from faculty, staff and residents/fellows. Every year OGME receives heartfelt nominations in recognition of the hard work SIUSOM coordinators do on a daily basis. The nominations are compiled and reviewed by the OCA award committee. Remembering Shirley We are pleased to showcase our newst endowed scholarship: the Endowed Shirley J. McGlinn Memorial Scholarship Fund. Many of our alumni will remember Mrs. McGlinn as a longtime biology instructor for MEDPREP, much beloved by all who knew her. Shirley received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, and a Master’s Degree in Zoology from SIU Carbondale. After receiving her Master’s degree, Shirley taught histology in the Department of Anatomy, where she was a three-time winner of the School of Medicine Teacher of the Year Award – in

CITI Financial Conflict of Interest Training

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (Springfield) relies on the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program (CITI) to fulfill Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) Training required for all personnel involved in federally funded research. Successful completion of Financial Conflict of Interest training is required before research personnel can engage in research activities.
