Boot Camp

We are excited to introduce to you our Boot Camp Program that was started in 2012. This exciting, innovative program is put on for our interns in the first month of their residency. Here at SIU, we have residents who are from different medical schools, cultures, and even countries. Boot Camp was first proposed as a way to gauge each intern’s comfort level with different practical skills and knowledge of pediatric-specific topics. We then offer a program that prepares all interns to start their first clinical rotation confident in their skills, and well-aware of our expectations of them. We

Summer research internships will be offered for the ninth year at Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Medicine. Three fourth-year students received the Alumni Scholarship: Kyle McCullough , son of Michael and Gayle McCullough of Decatur; Jacquelyne Mool , daughter of Ken Mool of Panola and Kim Scott of Peoria; and Jasmine Moreno , daughter of Efren and Martha Moreno of Chicago. The Alumni Scholarship was established by the charter Class of 1976 as a gift in honor of its 25th reunion. The Class of 1977 followed the lead of its predecessor by supporting the fund with reunion

Medical Students Working with Local Physicians

Family physicians in eight Illinois communities are hosting students from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine January 3 – January 27. The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. The experience provides an opportunity for students to use their medical knowledge in an office setting under the supervision of an experienced physician.
