SIU Medical-Legal Partnership Aims to Help Families in Need

A low-income family living in rental property discovers peeling lead paint. They could have health problems as a result. But many families don’t know how to get help for either their medical problems or legal questions. Medical-legal partnerships allow doctors to “prescribe” a lawyer to encourage the landlord to comply with housing laws before irreversible damage occurs. SIU Medicine Announces New COVID-19 Testing Times

August 5, 2020 – SIU Medicine, in coordination with the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) and the Office of the Mayor, recently relaunched a testing site at SCDPH to meet the immediate need for expanded testing in Sangamon County. Testing is now available only on select days at 2833 S. Grand Avenue East in the parking area adjacent to the public health building. All testing slots are open during the following times, weather permitting. The site is closed on Wednesdays. Testing hours are: Monday: 9-11 a.m. | 4-7 p.m. Tuesday: 9-11 a.m. | 4-7 p.m. Thursday: 9-11 a.m. | 4-7 p.m

May 13, 2020 – SPRINGFIELD - Seventy new physicians and a graduate student at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine achieved degrees Saturday, May 16, in the school’s virtual celebration of commencement ( view the ceremony here ). Authorities have long anticipated the U.S. would face a shortage of physicians as the Baby Boomer generation aged and outpaced medical school graduates.
